Deborah has been an inspiring supervisor and mentor for me throughout my PhD. She understands the support students require to grow into successful scientists and collaborators and by sharing her knowledge and experiences she ensures they do so. In response to setbacks, Deborah provided me with sensitive and objective advice, ensuring a realistic perspective was maintained so that focus can remain on the bigger picture and end goals. Her positive outlook strongly influences the people around her, effectively reducing the hurdles and challenges her teammates face. Her approach to problems; through education and science; allows her to tackle the biggest questions our planet faces and in doing so inspires the students and colleagues around her into action. Most importantly, Deborah has a cracking sense of humour, making her invaluable as a supervisor and colleague, while lecturing students, at conferences and out in the field with the albatrosses.
